Surprise! The 14th door on the Advent calendar is almost bursting with excitement. Open it, and you'll find yourself in the midst of a vortex of winter melodies, village chit-chat, and hearty fare. Two weeks before Christmas, Adelboden Dorfplatz is the scene of an annual celebration where the coldest months of the year receive the warmest of welcomes. On Saturday 14 December, all the anticipation finally finds its voice.
For a start, it's loud. The Edelwiis Cowbell Ringers will be heralding the coming season with clappers and traditional bells. Then it gets warm. Spectators will be served free Chäsbrägel (melted cheese on bread) and punch from 4 pm onwards. Finally, the mood becomes more contemplative. As the daylight begins to fade, the huge Christmas tree will be illuminated for the first time. What more could you want from this festive trilogy? With a full stomach, ringing ears and bright eyes, the stage is set for some incredible winter months.
