Frutigen offers many attractive winter footpaths. This one takes you from Frutigen to Gantenbach, past small brooks and through snowy winter forests.
The sign-posted route begins in Frutigen next to the Hotel Falken on Kanderstegstrasse and follows the Engstlige river towards Künzisteg to Gand, a protected area of national significance. Depending on the temperature, you will be treated to a fascinating river landscape and snowy winter forests.
After about 45 minutes you reach the covered wooden Grantibridge. A short climb to Bodmen reveals the imposing Niesen mountain chain and the beautiful landscape of Reinisch. To return to Frutigen you can choose between the direct route via Büelen or the worthwhile scenic route via Tellenburg. The hill of the castle ruins (an emblem of the Kander Valley) affords a magnificent view of the southern valley-end with Balmhorn and Altels, or beyond the valley to the hamlet of Kanderbrück and the village of Frutigen.
